About Us

BioMedical Genomics Centre (BMGC) is a research and genomics-service institution promoted and aided jointly by the Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India, National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (NIBMG), Kalyani, and the Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (IPGME&R), Govt. of West Bengal. The Institution is situated on the 3rd floor of the PG Polyclinic building and occupies about 5000 sq. feet of floor space. BMGC was founded in 2011, and has been fully functional since April 2013. Establishment of BMGC was guided by the commitment of NIBMG to ensure a proximate and fruitful research engagement between clinicians and basic scientists.

One of the main aims of BMGC is to provide access and empower clinicians with genomic technologies for conducting genomic research. Research in BMGC encompasses a wide variety of genotype-phenotype correlations, gene-environment interactions and effective utilization of genomic data in clinical care. Another major goal BMGC is to provide genome-based diagnostics to medical conditions. BMGC intends to enable clinician researchers generate basic genomic evidence for identified and defined disease/ health phenotypes to facilitate genome-based solutions.  The Institution also aims to promote genomic research capacity building by training medical students, researchers and professionals through workshops, continuing education and other training programs.
